Your Pathways To Big Wins In The Football Offseason

by Chike Nwoye

24 Jun 2025

The European football season has wrapped up, and what a wild ride it was. PSG finally claimed their first treble after a historic 5-0 win in the Champions League final. But, that’s in the past now.

In fact, we are so done with last season, Simone Inzaghi, Head Coach of the beaten UCL finalists, Inter, has packed his bags for the Saudi Pro League, where he’ll be calling the shots at Al-Hilal.

So now you’re probably wondering, “What’s left to bet on? How do we cash out during the off-season?” Don’t worry, there’s still plenty of action to get in on, and our online betting community isn’t getting left behind.

True to our title of being the best betting site in Nigeria, we’ve put together a quick guide to all the juicy sporting events coming up before European football kicks off again… and, no, WWE Summerslam didn’t make the cut. That’s not a sport. And yes, I say that as someone who once had a John Cena poster on my wall.

Football

If you’re still itching for football, well, here’s what to look forward to this summer…

Eliteserien (The Norwegian League)

European football isn’t 100% over. The Norwegian Eliteserien doesn’t follow the common football calendar and is currently in its early stages, week 10 to be precise. Now, if you’re not familiar with the name “Eliteserien”, you’ve definitely heard of reigning champions, Bodø/Glimt who reached the semi-final of the Europa League where they were beaten by eventual winners, Tottenham. They were home to our very own Victor Boniface and have dominated in recent years, winning 4 of the last 6 league titles, while Molde — yep, Erling Haaland’s old team — won the other two.

The FIFA Club World Cup

If you’ve been scratching your head over why Real Madrid paid €10 million for Trent Alexander-Arnold instead of waiting a few weeks to get him for free, or why Al-Hilal already unveiled Simone Inzaghi as new Head Coach and are aggressive in their pursuit of Bruno Fernandes and Victor Osimhen, it’s all because of the Club World Cup. Yes, FIFA tweaked the transfer window for the participating clubs to register players early and hit the ground running.

With a jaw-dropping $1 billion prize pool ($125 million going to the winners) you can see why clubs are moving like hustlers. Teams can potentially make more from this tournament than the Champions League. Shey Burna Boy talk say Dangote still dey find money. See as Billion dollar clubs dey fight for $125 million na!

Running from June 15 to July 13, this year’s expanded Club World Cup features 32 teams, including heavyweights like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, PSG, Al-Hilal, Chelsea, Man City, Botafogo, and Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami. There’s even talk that Cristiano Ronaldo (now out of contract) might show up, especially after that cryptic come-and-get-me Instagram post: “This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.” Infantino might just be cooking something behind the scenes.

One thing we know for sure, this Club World Cup won’t be like anything we’ve seen before, thanks to all that cash flying around, and you can get in on the action too with BetKing.

CONCACAF Gold Cup

This year’s Gold Cup kicks off on June 15 and runs through to July 7, with Canada and the U.S. sharing hosting duties. There’s plenty to get excited about; Jamaica’s squad has a fresh new look with some high-profile additions, while Saudi Arabia, one of the invited teams, gets a solid opportunity to test themselves against similarly ranked sides.

But the spotlight will definitely be on Mauricio Pochettino, who’s had a mixed start as head coach of the United States with 5 wins and 4 losses in 9 games. After their disappointing run in the CONCACAF Nations League - losing 1-0 to Panama in the semis and 2-1 to Canada in the third-place game - the pressure is on. With the 2026 World Cup fast approaching, all eyes will be on how they bounce back.

UEFA European Women's Championship

The Women’s Euros is another tournament worth getting hyped for, and it’s all going down in July. England’s Lionesses made history in 2022, winning their first-ever title with a dramatic 2-1 extra-time win over Germany. But since then, it’s been all about Spain who have won the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Women’s Nations League, while their midfield maestros, Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmati, have taken home the last four Ballon d'Or Féminin awards between them.

Still, they’ve shown they aren’t invincible. They missed out on a medal at the last Olympics, and Barcelona (a team dominated by Spanish players) shockingly lost to Arsenal in the Champions League final last month, reminding everyone they’re not unbeatable.

As they all head to Switzerland next month, they’ll have the biggest target on their backs, but the good thing is they’ll also have something to prove to themselves as they seek a first ever European Championship.

WAFCON

Last but definitely not least in the football world is next month’s Women’s African Cup of Nations. Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been the queens of this tournament, winning 9 out of 12 editions and reaching the semi-finals in the other 3. But let’s be real, their dominance isn’t what it used to be.

South Africa took home the last WAFCON title while Nigeria lost the third-place game to Zambia, a clear sign that the power balance may be shifting. While South Africa won it, the real breakout story was Morocco. They won all their group games, knocked out Nigeria in the semis, and Ghizlane Chebbak, who was the joint top scorer, was named Player of the Tournament. Since then, Morocco’s Lionesses have only gotten stronger, qualifying for their first World Cup and even making it out of the group stage.

As for the Falcons, their forgettable outing at last year’s Olympics, where they lost all their group games, left fans with more questions than answers. While they’ll still be the team to beat based on history, South Africa, Morocco, and Zambia (who have the reigning African Women’s Footballer of the Year, Barbra Banda) will not let them have it easy.

Other Sports

Football aside, there’s a lot of other tournaments that provide opportunities to multiply your betting stake. Here are the key ones to keep an eye on…

Wimbledon

With the French Open wrapped up, the spotlight now shifts to London, home of Wimbledon. The last two men’s finals have been between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, with the 22-year-old Spaniard taking down the Serbian legend who has featured in the last six finals. Safe to say, we’re witnessing a changing of the guard in men’s tennis.

Alcaraz will chase history by trying to become just the fourth man in the Open Era to win Wimbledon three years in a row, joining greats like Björn Borg, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, and Djokovic, and we have the best odds for that on BetKing.

On the women’s side, Barbora Krejčíková beat Jasmine Paolini 6–2, 2–6, 6–4 in last year’s final, making it back-to-back wins for Czech players after Markéta Vondroušová’s triumph in 2023. With eight different champions in the last eight years, this year’s tournament is wide open. However, one of my betting tips for the summer is world #1 Aryna Sabalenka, who just suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Coco Gauff in the French Open final, going all the way and making 9 different winners in 9 years.

WNBA

By now, you’ve probably caught a bit of the women’s basketball bug and yeah, that’s mostly thanks to Caitlin Clark, one of the most electric players to set foot on a basketball court. She’s the newest phenomenon in sports, drawing comparisons to Michael Jordan in the NBA and Tiger Woods in golf in terms of impact. Clark suits up for the Indiana Fever, one of the big favourites this season and she’s definitely one you should watch play.

But as good as she is, the WNBA isn’t a one-woman show.

The defending champs, New York Liberty, have kicked off the season unbeaten, while the 5-time title winners and last year’s finalists, Minnesota Lynx, are also perfect so far. In fact, Minnesota’s superstar, Napheesa Collier, is leading the MVP race right now. And don’t sleep on the 2-time champions Las Vegas Aces who’ve got A’ja Wilson, a 3-time MVP and 2-time Defensive Player of the Year, doing her thing.

On BetKing, you’ve got a shot to win big by backing these incredible women who are leading the charge in this exciting new era of women’s sports.

UFC 317 and UFC 318

If you’re into fights, then UFC 317 and 318 should definitely be on your radar. UFC 317 will see undefeated Ilia Topuria face off against Charles Oliveira for the now-vacant lightweight title, after current champ Islam Makhachev moved up and challenged new welterweight king, Jack Della Maddalena.

Then comes UFC 318, where Max Holloway is putting his “BMF” (Baddest Motherf***er) belt on the line against Dustin Poirier in what’ll be their third showdown. Poirier won the first two fights, so this isn’t just about the BMF bragging rights, it’s personal now.
